Commercial Black Sea Bass Closing on October 8th

October 4, 2012

In the past 30 days, five commercial fisheries have closed in the South Atlantic, and more are expected to close in the next 30 days.

On October 8, 2012 the commercial black sea bass fishery will close for the year. This comes after many fishermen were eliminated through the endorsements program.   It doesn't seem like endorsements are working all that well when the fishery only stays open a couple of months longer after giving almost half the fishery the axe.

These shortened seasons are becoming too common place for fishermen in the South Atlantic and we need change. All of these old, misguided regulations aren't working and we can't afford to keep using them.
